My life has been so frantic. I have been working my butt off, planning T's 6th birthday party, having my mother as a guest and preparing to go away during the holidays.

I am so glad I've read a lot this year. I have no books in my queue, which is so unlikely...

So, how about "V", huh? I'm a little disappointed, not nearly as good as the original... It may get better, we'll see.

Couch Potato

This summer I've been catching up to the TV series I didn't watch during the regular year.

Heroes: I know it's the third season. Season 1 was awesome, season 2 sucked and was cut off short due to the screenwriters' strike. I hadn't seen it because it comes the same time as DWtS, and DWtS is always a priority for me. Season 3 looks a bit better. I have seen 5 episodes so far and I'm lost, partly due to not remembering most of season 2. Many wtf moments so far. Looking forward to the rest.

Fringe: I have spoken about it before. It's the new series by JJ Abrahams. That is enough to make it good (okay, I didn't like Alias, I admit it, I stopped watching it in the middle of the first season). It's a freaky twist on the X Files, mixed with the LOST crazyness. And Joshua Jackson is in it. Anyway, the pilot episode was a little "ah, whatever", but once you keep going, it's addictive. I watched all 22 episodes in less than 2 weeks.

Dollhouse: Okay, this is a Joss Whedon series and I was very reluctant because of that. It's the guy who created Buffy - a really bad show based on a bad movie. I watched a few episodes (mute on) because of David Boreanaz who played Angel, then he got his own series, but the storylines sucked too. He's in Bones now, which I watch if I happen to catch it. Anyway, I watched one and a half episode of Dollhouse and I am hooked. Think "Total Recall" meets "The Matrix pod" (something I'd totally like to have in my head). Plus I like Eliza Dushku.

How do I fit all this in a schedule that already contains Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, LOST and the whole nine yards? Do I need to cancel my netflix? (please say no)

A bit of everything

Well, where do I start? I write posts in my head, daily, then I get home and don't write anything...

I've been working a lot. No news there. Times are hard, the company slashed our overtime. We're not authorized to do it, they won't pay for it. I end up doing it anyway, the work has to get done. I guess management did notice I was going above and beyond the call of duty and gave me a promotion. I was pretty happy about that!

Now hubbs and I are shopping for a new vehicle. His car payments ended in 07, mine in 08, so we did have a few extra bucks every month (which was nice considering there is a recession out there). I'm going to get an appraisal on my car tomorrow to see what we are able to afford.

T is his happy self, as usual. We traveled to WDW/Universal during memorial day week. He had a blast, rode 2 rollercoasters with his Dad (which means he cannot possibly be my son) and the splash mountain. The following week was his Pre-K graduation, the same day we met "his lovey girl who he's going to marry". He has very good taste, I must say.

BTW, he has decided the theme of his birthday parties in 2009, 2010 and 2011, which makes everything so much easier for me. 2009 and 2010 are practically ready. For 2011 I already have a few things - yes, I'm a planner!

I am still volunteering my time at the Bring Sean Home Foundation. Despite favorable court decisions, appeals after appeals have been filed. Add that to a slow judicial system... that really makes me mad. The Federal Judge wrote a brilliant, airtight 82-page sentence on this case (followed by a 2nd ruling concerning parental alienation). I feel really bad for this child, all this abuse. The family wants to cut all contact between him and his legitimate father. It makes me sick to my stomach...

I just realized I didn't write a single movie review this year. We've seen a few. There's also the TV series. LOST is more awesome than ever. I can't believe next season will be the last. Since we have a lot of time to kill before the next season, we've been watching it from inception? Who's we? Well, I attend a LOST roundtable every Friday at my friend's workplace (down the street from me). Well, now I'm also addicted to Fringe. I found the episodes from Season 1 online and I'm almost done. It's like the X Files, many conspiracies, twists and freaky stuff (and cutie Joshua Jackson). Lil Ole Nerdy me loves it.

Just wish I were in San Diego for the Comic-Con.

Shocked!

Seriously, I think I've seen everything now.

There's a couple, they're friends with my Dad and it's the guy's third marriage. My Mom was telling me the things they say about each other.

First, he told his wife "you're not the wife I loved the most but I'm going to spend the rest of my life with you".

Pretty sweet, huh? Especially for a guy who's been divorced twice.

Now it's the wife's turn, talking about her husband.

"He's my master and I do everything he says, I'm here to please him".

That was my queue to start whistling the theme from "I dream of Genie"... This is 2009, people!!!!! How can someone act like that????

I was watching the DWtS results show and they had a great performance by Los Vivancos. They are 7 brothers from Spain who are Flamenco dancers.

They put a great flamenco show, with a modern twist. At times, you will think of Riverdance. So good! I wish I could catch these guys live sometime.

I admit it, I have a new guilty pleasure

My Big Redneck Wedding. It's just too funny for words.

It's a series on the CMT channel (apparently on it's 2nd season). Each 30-min episode chronicles ceremony preparations for redneck weddings. The stuff on these shows are just hilarious.

I have seen demolition derby weddings, bridal party on back of monster truck (then truck doesn't start and they have to get out and push), pig as a ring bearer... everything!

In one of the recent episodes, the groom wanted to buy his bride some lingerie. The friend wants him to go to K-Mart cause it's cheaper (LOL) but they end up going to one of those "adult stores". After looking at many things, they decide on a nightgown with a long-sleeved sheer top. But the guy is not sure his wife likes long sleeves. So when they get to the parking lot, he pulls out a pocket knife and cuts off the sleeves.... Priceless!!!

I know it's on Saturday nights, but they often have reruns and my personal favorite: marathons! I thought the Bridezilla shows were good, but these are way funnier!

Compulsive Hoarding

I was amazed by a documentary I saw on TLC channel about compulsive hoarding. I had no idea some people could ever get to this point. It is estimated over 1 million people suffer from it in the United States alone. It is not limited to specific age, gender, race or financial status.

According to the dictionary, hoard means "to accumulate money, food, or the like, in a hidden or carefully guarded place for preservation, future use, etc.". This people have no use for their things, they just *need to keep it*.

So, the show was following 3 people that had the disease. Yes, it is a disease. The treatment does take time, medication and patients need to have willpower to overcome it. Alos, it goes beyond lack of organization. Most people do not understand that.

Two of them were a couple, and the problem is their parents had been hoarders before them (ironically, the woman was an interior decorator). So the behavior was "copied" from childhood. It was taking a toll on their marriage. They were on the verge of a divorce, and decided to undergo therapy and hire a professional organizer to help. They made a lot of progress in the course of the show.

The third person was a lady who suffered from OCD and hoarding was one of the symptoms. She was alone, had no job and nobody to help her. Her case was very extreme, she was being evicted because her apartment was not up to fire code. She had all her walls covered with bookcases and shelves, all packed with things. She would walk down the street and see something in somebody's garbage that she thought useful, she would fetch it and take home.

Because she was under government care, she could only have one session with a doctor per week, and her medication was scarce. Although she was making progress, it was very limited due to minimum resources. In the end, she was able to get a court order to postpone the eviction, but she would still have to vacate her place and had nowhere else to go. I felt really sorry for her.

So I have been watching my X Files boxed set, which is why I have been neglecting my Netflix movies. I think I'll just have to put my membership on hold for a while.

I'm through with the first season and started the second one. I admit I had forgotten how much I loved this series when it came out, and how all the mysteries played out. I can't believe it's been 15 years and I was still in high school.

What is so incredibly cool is that there were a few episodes I don't think I've ever seen. Duchovny is also incredibly hot - and he was still able to maintain his charming self. Plus he's doing a great job in Californication. I also saw a photo of Gillian in a website yesterday, and she looks more beautiful everyday.

I'm going to try to tackle the movie in the theatre tomorrow morning. It got some bad reviews, but I don't care. Plus, it's free anyway.

I'd like to buy a vowel, please!

My little T is addicted to Wheel of Fortune. First he surfs through the kiddie channels, but usually at 7pm there is nothing he likes. So he turns to ABC to watch Wheel of Fortune.

He makes me sit down next to him and I have to guess all the words. If the contestant answers before I do, he yells at me LOL.

It's really cute he starts putting together the words. "Mommy, that word is CAR! C-A-R!". Adorable! He hasn't even started Pre-K. Oh, yeah, he was supposed to start Kindergarten in September, but they changed the admission birth dates and won't even test him (but it's subject for another post).

Funny thing, is yesterday the lady got almost all the letters in. It was a prize puzzle, and the board said "DANCING IN THE _AND". She answered "Dancing in the Land", which was wrong. The answer, of course, was "dancing in the Sand", and the other contestant answered. Then Sajak turned to her and asked: "it's a prize puzzle, where do you think you're going?" and I yelled "Australia!". LOL. Nah, the thing is they were sending her to the beach in the Caribbean.

But all I could think was "we're gonna clap 3 times in the sunshine". LOL!

Oh, Jeopardy...

Earlier this week Jeopardy had a category named "On the beach". All the questions were about Rio de Janeiro.

First of all, some of the questions were video questions, and the caption read "Rio de Janiero" under the name of the person speaking. Tacky! Nobody noticed? There were, like, 3 video questions, all with the same error!

Oh, and one of the questions was about the "celebration that happens every year in january" and the answer was Carnaval. Except that carnaval happens in February. Occasionally, VERY rarely, it could fall on January or March.

A while ago, they had drinking cheers around the world, and the word was "Nazdrowie". The woman said "what is Polish" and they said she got it wrong. They said the answer was Russian. Except that Nazdrowie IS Polish (hubby's family is Polish and always toast like that), plus Nazdrowie in Russian is not used as a drinking cheer!

For a trivia question that rewards incredibly smart contestants, that show is really letting me down. They should do better research!
