In the car, listening to the election ads on the radio:
- Mommy, what's "burrackomama"?
We were watching Tv and there was a glimpse of the movie "Where the heart is". Wal-Mart is mentioned in the conversation:
-Wal-Mart? Oh, I love the Wal-mart. They have the best prices!
Upon hearing the word Subway:
- Subway, eat fresh! (LMBO)

"This is Halloween" from "The Nightmare before Christmas" Soundtrack
More Pumpkins
These are the pumpkins we carved last weekend. My friend carved the Yoda and I helped her towards the end. I carved all the other 3. The kids helped, as much as we allowed them to (it's not too safe to play around with saws!). If I have a chance and find decent pumpkins, I will carve a couple more. I think we may even have a contest next week @ work.
Enjoy!
Yoda

Spongebob

Pirate Ship

Mickey Mouse

This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright
It's our town, everybody scream
In this town of Halloween

Bring Sean Home
I'm not sure if you've seen this case on the news. It was covered by the Today Show and a few other media outlets.
This story is breaking my heart.
This man, David Goldman, drove his then wife Bruna, his 4 year old Sean and then in-laws to Newark Airport in 2004. Once Bruna arrived in Brazil, she called him to tell him she was no longer going back with their kid and if he wanted to see his again, he'd have to go to Brazil and sign a bunch of paperwork.
Fast forward 4 years and multiple court hearings, this man is still not allowed to have any contact with his son. Bruna has re-married (she divorced him without his knowledge, WTF?) an attorney from a powerful and wealthy family (ironically, specialized in family law and international child kidnapping cases). On a dark twist, Bruna recently died a few hours after giving birth to a baby girl.
Now, you'd think the Dad would get his son back. Noooooo! The family of the new husband is very influential, and they're pulling all strings possible. They filed a court order so the Brazilian newspapers could not publish anything on it, plus filed a lawsuit for the new husband to replace the dad's name in the birth certificate!!!!
David is in Brazil with a court order for visitation, but the stepfather vanished with the kid just the day before the visitation was supposed to take place.
The Brazilian court system is a joke and this whole thing makes me sick to my stomach.

Global warming my....
It's mid-October in DC. Last night we had 32F and a frost. This morning I came into work shivering. It's 40F outside.
This is that time of the year that I wish I were anywhere south. 'Cause I know the white poop will be coming and I absolutely hate it.
I think I'll build myself a hurricane-proof home in Florida....

Russian Day Out
My Russian friend invited me and T to go watch her daughter dance ballet. I don't have a daughter, and I loooove dance, so of course I said yes.
I didn't know at the time, but all the kids, parents and teachers at the presentation were Russian. The songs were in Russian. They spoke Russian all the time. T and I were the only two non-Russian speaking people in the room.
T would turn to me and ask "Mommy, what's that man saying that I don't understand?" LOL
We had fun watching them. But I would work more on improving the older kids' technique. I thought they needed to improve their posture, and be sharper when moving arms and legs. Plus in some of the turns, it looked as if they were "marking" as opposed to dancing. (yeah, yeah, yeah, I know! I danced for many years, I tend to be picky!)
So, here are a few of the pics from the day. Enjoy!

¡Ole!
I was watching the DWtS results show and they had a great performance by Los Vivancos. They are 7 brothers from Spain who are Flamenco dancers.
They put a great flamenco show, with a modern twist. At times, you will think of Riverdance. So good! I wish I could catch these guys live sometime.
Boy, I miss my bailaora days...

I admit it, I have a new guilty pleasure
My Big Redneck Wedding. It's just too funny for words.
It's a series on the CMT channel (apparently on it's 2nd season). Each 30-min episode chronicles ceremony preparations for redneck weddings. The stuff on these shows are just hilarious.
I have seen demolition derby weddings, bridal party on back of monster truck (then truck doesn't start and they have to get out and push), pig as a ring bearer... everything!
In one of the recent episodes, the groom wanted to buy his bride some lingerie. The friend wants him to go to K-Mart cause it's cheaper (LOL) but they end up going to one of those "adult stores". After looking at many things, they decide on a nightgown with a long-sleeved sheer top. But the guy is not sure his wife likes long sleeves. So when they get to the parking lot, he pulls out a pocket knife and cuts off the sleeves.... Priceless!!!
I know it's on Saturday nights, but they often have reruns and my personal favorite: marathons! I thought the Bridezilla shows were good, but these are way funnier!

It's fall, which means it's constantly getting cold and we'll be covered in white poop soon. That sucks.
But it means it's time for one of my favorite holidays: Halloween. It's probably due to the fact I did not have that growing up, but Halloween is just too much fun and I love to decorate.
This year I've invited a couple of friends with their little ones and we're going to carve a bunch of pumpkins at my house. I'm already collecting really fun patterns.
So, for our Friday Fiesta today, I have pictures of the pumpkins I carved last year.
Tinkerbell, for a princess friend

Pirates of the Caribbean, for my little Captain Jack Sparrow

And our friendly Winnie the Pooh

You can open up your mouth and you can say AH at the doctor's
I'm sick. I've been in bed since Sunday night. Sore throat, fever (up to 104), entire body aches. I went to the doc and she prescribed antibiotics. The strep test was negative, but she thinks it's strep anyway. I hope it is, so the antibiotics will work. If it's the flu, the I'm doomed.
Obviously, I haven't been to work this week. And my boss keeps emailing me with questions (like I have the energy to sit in front of a computer; if I did, I'd be at work).
I haven't had anything to eat. Just tea. It *really* hurts to swallow.
Oh and the antibiotics gave me side effects. But don't worry, I'm not going to enlist them.
